Yes, it's been a long time since I've sent out Henry County Announcements. I won't bore you with the long excuse and explanation, I'll just tell you that life will send you some surprises, and of course, you know that already, right?
Thanksgiving
I'm short on time...and aren't we all! But I had to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving.
On this Thanksgiving, I'm thinking about how thankful I am for family and friends, as every year. I do want to mention that many of my friends have been very supportive and helpful during these past months of adjusting to the "altered" family unit. You know what I mean and you know who you are. I embrace you with hugs and thanks! God Bless you.
I'm thankful that our home was spared damage during the spring storms. A few of us have had a very difficult time with the recovery; you amaze me with your strength and resilience; God Bless you. We can all be thankful that despite the forces of nature, there was no loss of life--such a blessing!
We can each think of the many things throughout the year we can say thanks for that touch our hearts, but I want to share one with you that touched my funny bone, because laughter is great medicine.
On an enforced "chill out" break, I had the impulse to search on the web for an old high school friend. <chuckling> I found him. His name is Jeff Grimshaw and I discovered that he has a website with a nice selection of his articles. Jeff used to write for our High School paper back in Little Falls, N.J.--now he is the humor columnist for the Delaware Valley News in Hunterdon County, NJ. I found myself laughing and smiling my way through first one, then another and another of his columns. I thought I just had to share this with you, so with Jeff's permission I have reprinted two of his columns on our Henry County Web. If you enjoy Jean Shepherd or Garrison Kellor, I think you'll enjoy these two columns from Jeff. (Link to Jeff's web site with more humor and information on ordering "Wing Ding at Uncle Tug's and Other Stories," on the linked pages.)

So...to borrow from Bob Hope...Jeff, thanks for the memories!
Historic Images of Henry County
The Henry County Chamber of Commerce and the Henry County Historical Society are teaming to bring to life the history of our county through a beautiful pictorial book. The book will not only include pictures of people, places and memorabilia, but also a look at our cities, towns and villages as they were in the past. Lanham Media will retouch the pictures used in the book, and it will be printed in a duotone, giving the historical look to the entire publication. This will be a true heirloom for future generations.
We will have 1000 copies (limited first edition) to sell by October, 2005 (publishing a book is a slow process), but you won’t have to worry about what to give everyone on your list for Christmas. Pre-Order before December 31, and save!

Shop Online @ Made In Henry County Ky
At last we are launching madein.henrycountyky.com! Our new web site will feature ONLY products that are made right here in Henry County! Sure, if you live here, you can just bop down to Cook's or Perry's or Henry County Supply, or visit one of the festivals and grab yourself some Henry County goodies, but there are a number of you on the mailing list that grew up here and moved away, or plan to move here in the future, or visited one of our community events--so it's not just a short drive to get your yummies. This is your way to get some goodies from back home. So tell your kids and friends a-far that they can buy Henry County made goodies on the internet at madein.henrycountyky.com.
There is a modest selection there now--jellies, honey, brooms, to name a few--but more additions are planned. Coming soon we'll be adding candles. So check it out yourselves and visit often to see what's coming.
DON'T FORGET...
Being PRO-ACTIVE is essential to keeping a "clean machine" and much more time and cost effective then being REACTIVE after you've been infected. Now, even pictures sent in email can conceal a virus! So update you anti-virus program and keep up with your Microsoft updates.
Also, at the Department of Homeland Security, you can sign-up for email bulletins "Cyber Alerts" and "Cyber Tips." These are available in TECHNICAL and NON-TECHNICAL versions, so my fellow geeks can get the down and dirty and my less geek-ish friends can get the "short story" instead of the novel.
