New Beginnings

Ah, a bright and shining New Year!  Okay, I know.  I'm looking out the window this Monday morning and it's not really bright.  It sort of shining because everything is so WET!  But it IS New.

"Beginnings" happen at anytime of year, but we seem to be attached to the idea that anything "new" begins with the first day of the year.  Honestly, the preceding weeks to January first have been so hectic that it's hard to imagine taking on anything new, when you are still trying to recover from what you've just been through.

Fortunately, the year generally starts out slow.  We are hunkered-down for the cold weather, not to anxious to commit to activities that may be cancelled because of the weather, anyway.  We enter into a cocooning stasis--a suspended animation.  That's not to say we just lumber and slumber.  We just take things a little slower and find much of our "stimulation" indoors--reading, hobbies, garden-dreaming, TV, surfing the net--which is fun.  Of course, we are can't keep ourselves isolated for too long...or we succumb to the dreaded CABIN FEVER!

January is usually the time I look around the desk and the rest of the room and wonder where the heck all this "stuff" came from.  I want clean!  I want tidy!  It's my PRE-SPRING CLEANING FEVER.  It's absolutely NOT fun!  Motivating to "have at it" takes awhile.

In the meanwhile, I'll do some reading, hobbies, garden-dreaming, TV, net surfing....  I know I'll feel better for being re-organized; procrastinating just a little bit won't be a tragedy, though.

Historic Images of Henry County

The Henry County Chamber of Commerce and the Henry County Historical Society are teaming to bring to life the history of our county through a beautiful pictorial book. The book will not only include pictures of people, places and memorabilia, but also a look at our cities, towns and villages as they were in the past. Lanham Media will retouch the pictures used in the book, and it will be printed in a duotone, giving the historical look to the entire publication. This will be a true heirloom for future generations.

We will have 1000 copies (limited first edition) to sell by October, 2005 (publishing a book is a slow process), but you won’t have to worry about what to give everyone on your list for Christmas.

Read more about it at http://henrycountyky.com/history/newbook.html

Shop Online @ Made In Henry County Ky

At last we are launching madein.henrycountyky.com!  Our new web site will feature ONLY products that are made right here in Henry County!  Sure, if you live here, you can just bop down to Cook's or Perry's or Henry County Supply, or visit one of the festivals and grab yourself some Henry County goodies, but there are a number of you on the mailing list that grew up here and moved away, or plan to move here in the future, or visited one of our community events--so it's not just a short drive to get your yummies.  This is your way to get some goodies from back home.  So tell your kids and friends a-far that they can buy Henry County made goodies on the internet at madein.henrycountyky.com.

There is a modest selection there now--jellies, honey, brooms, to name a few--but more additions are planned.  Coming soon we'll be adding candles.  So check it out yourselves and visit often to see what's coming.
